No, You Can't Pick My Brain
No, You Can't Pick My Brain
Are you also fed up with folks asking to “pick your brain”? Struggling with wanting to be generous and helpful, but also knowing you should get paid for your time?
I get you.
Get Paid What You’re Worth
In this ebook, I’ve shared the strategies and scripts I use when presented with “brain pickers,” that guide them into paying for my time.
It’s Not Just About Money.
But that’s not all. Strategies and scripts are great, but there’s a LOT more going on when you charge for your time. In this ebook, I also go into setting your rates, authentically marketing your knowledge, whether you should charge family – and ALSO how to decide to help folks at no-cost. Plus a whole lot more (take a peak at the Table of Contents for more info!)
Charging for your time doesn’t make you greedy or a bad person. It makes you a smart human who recognizes your own worth and knowledge.
1st Chapter & Intro Materials
In the product images, I’ve shared the introduction, legal disclaimer (which you agree to when purchasing/reading the ebook) as well as the first chapter.
“$50 for an eBook?! Aren’t those like $7 on Amazon?!”
Good question! We could talk about how this is a pretty average price for personal development materials created by coaches, or the fact that I didn’t have a publisher cutting me a check for $20K to write this.
But instead, I’d like to talk about value pricing.
This price point was arrived at through a mix of gut feeling and research – using value pricing. “Value Pricing” is paying for something based on what it helps the user achieve. I recommend a base point consulting price of $50 USD. If someone uses the strategies from this ebook and earns $50 for an hour of consulting, the eBook paid for itself!
If you use an accessibility device and would like a PDF of these materials, please contact me. I’ll send them over ASAP!
FREE Update Versions Forever
Included in the purchase of this ebook is access to updated versions. I’m not stopping here, friend! This ebook is 12,250 words (roughly), and there’s a lot more to share.
Exception: In the small chance a publishing house purchases this book, i cannot guarantee a free copy of that book.
I will be opening a Facebook Group, for people who purchase this ebook. The group will remain free forever for the first 250 members (with the purchase of your ebook). The group will focus on folks "striving” for something, full of folks like you who know their stuff. The group will be a place to share how charing for your time is going, requests for input, and some good old self-promotion.
The group will change and evolve over time, but I’m excited to create a specific place for folks to talk about money & their knowledge on social media!

In 2011, I began working as a freelancer. As I amassed knowledge in marketing and product design, I began networking. 5 years later, I also started offering business and career coaching services.
As I met more folks, I wanted to share my insight and knowledge with them.
I found myself in a weird sort of place, where I would spend hours talking with folks on Facebook chat, via email and phone – providing insight and guidance – but not getting paid.
Eventually, I realized this wasn't doable longterm. My desire to help had folks coming to me all of the time, and I didn't know how to stem the tide. Inquiries were coming from friends, old colleagues - and then friends of friends. Then friends of friends of friends, etc. I was stuck in a weird gray area.
A couple of years ago, I realized I needed to start charging for my time – and not just from folks who were coming to me for freelance services. The folks showing up in other places in my life, too.
“I charge now.”
Figuring out a way to communicate that I was NOW going to charge people got... awkward. It's hard for folks to see you in a new light, especially when dollar signs are involved. From super in-your-face Facebook statuses to email replies to being cornered at a party by someone with a LOT of questions – I figured it out.
I flailed my way through. Along the way, I perfected how to communicate why I charge. I learned to share my value and deal with the variety of feelings that come with discussing money. I came up with scripts to make responding easier, and a whole new way of thinking about money.
So, I've compiled my hard-won strategies into an e-book for you, with the goal that this will make it much easier for you to charge for your time.
